Scholarship

Scholarship is characterized by a commitment to learning. A student is willing to spend the necessary time to cultivate his/ her mind in the quest for knowledge.  Scholarship means always doing the best work possible, regardless of impending reward.  Students who earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA through their Sophomore year in high school.

Leadership

The leadership criterion is considered highly important for membership selection.
In addition to offices a student has held in school or community organizations, leadership also exists outside elected positions including effective participation in other co curricular activities. Leadership roles in both the school and community may be considered, provided they can be verified.

The student who exercises leadership:

Service

Service is generally considered to be those actions undertaken by the student which are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation to the individual performing the service. In considering service, the contributions the candidate for membership has made to the school, classmates, and community, as well as the student’s attitude toward service can be reviewed. Members must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of service per year.

Character

Character is probably the most difficult criterion to define. Positive as well as negative aspects of character may be considered and judgments should be free of speculation and rumor. The National Honor Society supports the “Six Pillars of Character” in that a person a character demonstrates the following six qualities: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

In addition, it can be said that the student of character:
